Chef Alfred Portale (Gotham Bar & Grill in New York) oversees the menu of contemporary American seafood: wild striped bass ceviche, roasted Canadian hard-shell lobster, and duck breast Chinoise with seared foie gras and caramelized mango and baby bok choy. This is the most elegant spot (next to Le Bec Fin) in town---chic and modern and finely tuned. Tasting menus feature the most intriguing dishes of the day, change daily, and never disappoint. Some diners may feel the portions are too small, but we think they are just right. The wine list is naturally pricey but features many top flight white Burgundies to accompany the gorgeous food. This is another of Stephen Starr's stars, so you know that the service will be top-drawer. The Big Easy jazz Sunday brunch is surely the place to see and be seen.
