Jakarta
JAKARTA
eventh largest city in the world, Jakarta, is the apital of Indonesia and the gateway to Oceana through Indo-China. Located on the North-West tip of Java Island the city is a tropical metropolis with, numerous islets, green hills and no fewer than thirteen rivers running through it. As the economic and political capital of Indonesia, Jakarta attracts many foreign as well as domestic immigrants. As a result, Jakarta has a decidedly cosmopolitan flavor and a diverse culture. Many of the immigrants are from the other parts of Java Island, bringing along a mixture of dialects of the Javenese and Sundanese languages, as well as their traditional foods and customs. Almost 10% of the population is of Chinese decent, bringing a host of culinary concepts and idea’s that have been fused with those already present. A burgeoning hive of modernism on an otherwise bucolic tropical island.
