Andrew Corbin & Christopher King proved on their departure from Caprice holdings that there’s more to their success than hiding behind a recognized name or two. Whilst the Ivy and Le Caprice certainly remain at the zenith of London’s restaurant scene they’ve been joined by CLKs (Corbin and Kings new company) first venture; The Wolseley. With the Wolseley the pair aimed to create an all-day café-brasserie in the grand European style that will serve snacks as well as three-course meals. Chris Galvin –of Galvin at Windows Fame- presides over the menu that serves up no-nonsense modern fare like Seared Fillet of Pollak, Roast Pata Negra Pork Belly and Wiener Holstein. Fear not cultured epicureans though for there’s still a selection of fineries such as Caviars and Oysters on offer too. The Wolseley has won a number of accolades since it opened, including Restaurant of the Year from Harpers and Moet and London Restaurant of the Year from Time Out and the AA. Harden’s readers voted it their eighth favourite restaurant in 2004 (the highest entry point for a newcomer) and it has since risen to third and then fourth position in the 2006 and 2007 editions.
