1 Ferry Building, No. 3
The Phan family opened the original Slanted Door in 1995 on Valenica Street with a vision to blend Vietnamese cooking technique with local ingredients. Since then this groundbreaking Vietnamese restaurant has moved three times, with each location more elaborate. Now Charles Phan and his family are settled into the Ferry Building in a modern space that affords views of the bay. He has also expanded his empire to a less expensive version of Slanted Door, called Out the Door, in the basement of the Westfield Centre. Both serve delicious food and are stylishly appointed. The food, relaxed atmosphere, riesling-driven wine list, full bar with premium brands and fresh squeezed juices, and hard-to-find Chinese teas all speak to the restaurant's originality and commitment to quality. At the Ferry Plaza, the room is filled with hard surfaces -- white marble floors, black honed granite countertops, cypress tables and floor-to-ceiling windows.
