A London institution until its closure in the 1990’s Caprice holdings have recently returned Scotts to where it belongs atop the upper eschelons of London’s gastronomic scene. Established as one of the most fashionable and glamorous eateries in town, the restaurant has welcomed film stars, politicians and writers through the decades. Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, was often seen at Scott's in the 50s and 60s and it was reportedly here that he discovered the dry martini 'shaken not stirred'. Much more refined and conservative than its Clubby sister J Sheekey, Scotts offers more of a quintisential fine dining experience. The new interior is inspired by the restaurant’s heyday, but definitely has a contemporary twist. Designed by Martin Brudnizki, the oak-panelled restaurant is a large, elegant room featuring rich burgundy-leather banquettes and an exquisite chandelier. The original Oyster bar has been brought up to date from its humble 1851 genesis and remains a focal point of Scott’s, with the 3 meter long crustacean display offers ever changing selections of shellfish in a more casual setting than the main restaurant. Scotts has been around for over 150 years thus for in one incantation or another, and though a fallen giant it may have been, with Caprice holdings at the helm Scott’s has been galvanized with a modern ethos that will cater for diners well into the next century.
