Occupying a meticulously restored courtyard home in one of Beijing's few remaining traditional Chinese neighborhoods, the Red Capital Club oozes nostalgia. Cultural Revolution memorabilia and books dating from the Great Leap Forward era (1958-60) adorn every nook of the small bar, while the theme of the dining room is imperial. The fancifully written menu reads like a fairy tale, with dreamily named dishes. "South of Clouds" is a Yunnan dish of fish baked over bamboo -- it's said to be a favorite of a former Communist marshal. "Dream of the Red Chamber" is a fantastic eggplant dish cooked according to a recipe in the classic novel by the same name. Exceptional with a ‘Capital’ E.
