One of the grand old Houston restaurants, this elegant dining room celebrates all things Texas. You’ll find no oysters Rockefeller here; instead, the premier starter is oysters Padre, fried oysters served Tex-Mex-style with pico de gallo and lime. The tomato salad is a stack of locally grown tomatoes and fresh basil right from their garden. Expect Prime beef, fresh fish and game cooked in a brick rotisserie oven. Earthy duck gumbo, grilled Texas quail or pheasant and duck quesadillas can spark your appetite for the sportsman's aesthetic. In a nod to outdoorsmen and a major manufacturer, there’s an "Orvis Salmon," a silky Atlantic fish sautéed with spinach and crab meat and given sinus-clearing heat with pepper, onions and garlic. Grilled Gulf catch (a simple filet with lemon and a spicy side of pasta); lavender-rubbed axis loin; buffalo rib-eye with green chili; and sagebrush duck are the sort of dishes that make us feel like cattle barons. Even those who aren't into eating exotic flesh will be wowed by lush garden-and-gazebo views and the remarkable wine list.
