Your guide to the best restaurants and hotels from around the world
1st Floor Metropolitan Hotel,
19 Old Park Lane,
As the culinary world's love affair with Japanese cuisine continues Chef/Restaurateur Nobuyuki Matsuhisa is the current name on the lips of London's fashionista. Boasting outlets in New York, LA, Paris, Milan and Vegas and with new outposts forecast to open in Hong Kong and Dallas in 2007, Nobu's chain of restaurants continue to wow diners with their originality and decadence. This longstanding mainstay of the Metropolitan
Hotel was the first of the three London branches that introduced Nobu cuisine to UK diners and continues to be the premier European outpost for sampling Matsuhisa's delicacies. Sushi is amongst the freshest in Europe and Nobu's own fruit sake marks a refreshing change from the hardened sake the Samurai used to take in Feudal Japan. Delectable signatures; Miso Black cod, tuna tataki and rock shrimp tempura with creamy spicy sauce keep pulling the punters and show no signs of becoming trite or boring as prime time bookings are as hard to get as when the restaurant first opened. Nobu's brilliant culinary advisor Mark Edwards calls this branch home when he's not overseeing other ventures around the world, a further testament to Nobu Metropolitan's position at the zenith of Masuhisa's empire. Service is amiable and always on hand amidst an understated, classy dining room that boasts a lively timbre and with its premier location on Hyde Park the views outside are almost as spectacular as the food within.
