Cruising into its twelfth year of service the Shinjuku Park Hyatts flagship restaurant shows no signs of losing any of its’ dynamic allure. Surrounded on four sides by glass, it features stunning cityscape views from 52 floors up, artwork by Valerio Adami, live jazz in the evenings, and a comprehensive 1,600 bottle wine cellar that showcases the best of Californian varietals. The impressive dining room is a lavishly spread and super sophisticated haunt, frequented by Tokyo’s high society and gastrophiles. Believe it or not however the special setting and ambience are not the reason Tokyoites flock here night after night–though one could be forgiven for making this hypothesis- the grilled offerings coming from the large open plan kitchen are what really catch the eye and are amongst the best anywhere in the world. Australian Roast Lamb with Aubergine Caviar, Fetta Cheese Boreks, Tomato and Basil Jus is flavorful and tender whilst Spit-Roasted Duck with Mango Chutney is crisp on the outside and succulent on the inside, a perfect balance of flavour and texture. Executive Chef Jack V Wetzel has put together an elite front and back of house team that, like one of the sommelier’s Californian Zinfandels, only get better with age. This is fine dining as it’s supposed to be done, impeccable service, stunning aesthetic, delicious food and more than a touch of class.
