Since it is housed in a dilapidated building, Ginja's quality can be easily underestimated. However once inside it’s clear that the initial supposition could not be further from the truth. Ginja is unarguably an upscale food joint that serves the most unique recipes, perhaps best labelled as Indian-fusion. The main ingredient in all the dishes prepared here is ginger, hence the name Ginja (pronounced, unsurprisingly, ‘jin-jah’). Something of a high-wire act for the culinary adventure set be prepared to be served dense puck of squid ink risotto, joined together by parmesan, wasabi and coriander or chocolate and coffe drizzled Spingbok bresaola, served with barbecued corn flavour ice-cream. Ginja certainly an establishment without limits were runaway eclecticism has seemingly broken free of all boundaries and limitations. The Shoga bar, which means ginger in Japanese, serves up some delightful signature and classic cocktails and theres a strong wine list for those looking to sample some of the fabulous local varietals. With it’s dimly lit interior and discreet location Ginja offers a truly intimate, if adventurous, dining experience for the romantically inclined.
