After over half a century the cities most authentic and traditional French restaurant still feels like a breath of fresh air. Hubert Keller (who’s daily changing menu is never the same twice) continues to innovate, reaching back to his rustic Alsatian roots for inspiration in his cooking. He tops ahi tartare with oxtail gelee for an innovative twist on surf and turf; and he dresses up sea bass with a black trumpet mushroom crust and serves it with a warm cabbage and bacon salad and a Riesling sauce. Draped in 700 yards of rich patterned fabric mood-lit with dim French candelabras, and accented with an extraordinary sculptural floral centerpiece, this restaurant is picture-perfectly romantic. The Wine list is equally impressive boasting no fewer than 700 French, California, and North Western bottles.
