With it’s superb waterfront location and thoroughly modern interior the Chung Ku may well be Liverpool’s best looking Chinese restaurant. The split level open-plan dining areas house up to 400 guests and feature floor to ceiling windows providing spectacular views of the river Mersey and adjacent waterfront. Feng Shui dominates the buildings aesthetic, a totally modern marriage of western modernity and oriental classicism with few corners and omnipotent daylight sources on the inside. The menu is a window into classic Chinese cooking –you know it must be a good restaurant if the Oriental community themselves go there- with a host of banquet, soup and special dishes on offer. The dim sum are famous here, perfect for both those quick lunchtime bites or a drawn-out dinner. All the classics are here; hot and sour soup, crispy wanton, sui mai, all done to a bar setting high standard, and there’s even some rare delicacies like scallops in birds nest and lobster with ginger and spring onions for those wishing to splash out on something truly savourable. Much much more than a Chinese meal the Chung Ku is one of the best Chinese restaurants this side of Hong Kong and promises a totally sensory altering experience for all whom enter…just don’t expect to be satisfied with the number 7 special from your local takeaway ever again.
