Throughout history, no matter where you go French cuisine has always been in demand, and down under is no exception. Possibly the best place to try it is Sydney’s recently crowned restaurant of the Year, Becasse on Clarence street. The restaurants deft combination of exquisite dishes and to the mark silver service makes for a thoroughly superlative dinner or lunch engagement. Justin North is clearly a chef who knows what he is doing, with roast breast and confit leg of quail with celeriac fondant, muscatels and walnuts simply bursting with flavor, whilst flakes of Steamed John Dory with crab and scallop mousse virtually fall to pieces and dissolves on the tongue. There’s an expansive wine selection featuring some very cheeky domestic and French varietals and they bar do a fabulous array of signature cocktails, including a great pear martini. They’re also more than happy to mix up old favorites like Moscow Mules or Lynchberg lemonade too, as is your want. Starched white tables bathed in an ethereal autumnal hue sit in a spacious dining room that’s dark wood and tan scheme ooze elegance and class. Becasse is truly the epitome of refined dining in Sydney.
